Barley Grass is one of the green grasses; it is the growing shoot from the barley plant. When harvested the grass is either carefully dried or juiced fresh. The dried grass is turned into powder or tablet form for commercial purposes. It is commercially known as Barley GreenGreen Barley Leaf and Green Magma.
Barley grass contains trace amounts of vitamins B12, B2, B3, C and E. It is high in minerals that are responsible for structural formation and metabolism in the body. Barley has served as a food staple in most cultures. The use of barley for food and medicinal purposes dates to antiquity. Agronomists place this ancient cereal grass as being cultivated as early as 7000 BC. Roman gladiators ate barley for strength and stamina.
Barley grass generally acts as a purifier and rejuvenator probably because of its high nutrient and chlorophyll content. Barley Grass offers unique digestive enzymes not available in such high concentrations in other foods. In addition to these enzymes is the presence of the antioxidant superoxide dismutase (SOD) and the substance P4D1. Both of these substances slow cellular degeneration and mutation and are thus useful against ageing and degenerative illness. The high mineral content along with large quantities of mucopolysaccarides (responsible for strengthening tissues and strongly anti inflammatory), help strengthen all body tissues including those of heart and arteries. The strong digestive properties of barley grass may help those with sluggish liver, slow digestion and gastro inflammation such as peptic ulcers and food intolerance.
Uses of Barley Grass: Traditionally barley grass has been used in the treatment of arthritis, bruises, burns, cancer, constipation, rheumatism and wounds. Barley grass may be used to alleviate eczema. The high chlorophyll content in barley grass gives it strong cleansing properties thus can be taken before meals if there is a tendency to overeat or to purge Candida yeast. Barley grass may be used on wounds, burns and other conditions externally.
Recommended Dosage: Recommended once or twice daily on an empty stomach (20 minutes before a meal). Dissolve two teaspoons into an 8 oz. glass of water or your favorite juice.
